Whiskey/Bourbon Tasting

Last Wednesday of the month, January 30th, 2008

6:00 p.m.

A. Southern Comfort...Coming from the French Quarter in the South. SoCo is made of a secret blend of flavors (peach, orange, vanilla, sugar and cinnamon). This Liqueur was originally called “Cuffs and Buttons”. The name was changed to be the grand old drink of the South.

B. Early Times...Came to us in 1860 to be exact at a place called Early Times Station, Kentucky. In 1920, the year Congress passed the Volstead Act, prohibition began. Early Times was designated a ‘medicinal’ whiskey making it exempt from the law.

C.  Jack Daniels...Why Old No.7? One story says that it was the rail-road shipping number on a barrel, some say Jack had seven girlfriends, other say Jack wrote his “J’s” like a 7. We will never know for sure- Mr. Jack took the answer to his grave.

D.  Fighting Cock...The “bad boy of Bourbon” is bottled at a robust 103 proof, but its 6 years of aging smoothes out the feathers real well. This bourbon uses rye, corn and barley while most others use wheat, corn, and barley.

E.  Jack Daniels Single Barrel...The world’s first charcoal mellowed single barrel Tennessee whiskey. This allows whiskey aficionados to sample the work of each individual barrel. Each barrel can be tasted for their subtle differences by each barrel's unique oak and aging experiences.

F.  Woodford Reserve...This is a premium small batch bourbon whiskey. Woodford is the “official bourbon” of two horse races, the Kentucky Derby and the Breeders Cup. Each bottle has their own bottle and batch number.

PREMIUM and FLAVORED VODKA TASTING

WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 28, 2007

A. 360 VODKA...Vodka with a "green" state of mind. 360 is crafted from a philosophy of awareness. Quadruple distilled and 5 times filtered.

B. GREY GOOSE VODKA...Made in the Cognac region of France, this vodka is made from French Winter Wheat and Alpine Spring Water. Recently, rated the #1 vodka by the Beverage Tasting Institute and awarded the only platinum medal with a whopping 96 points.

C. SKYY VANILLA VODKA...The creator of Skyy set out to solve a problem that has plagued mankind: headaches and hang-overs. Impurities called "congeners" were mostly responsible for alcohol related headaches. Through research he developed the lowest possible "congeners" in a vodka...thus giving us Skyy Vodka in the Cobalt blue bottle.

D. PEARL PLUM VODKA...Made from hand-selected Albertan Wheat and crystal clean Canadian Rocky Mountain water. The plum is a rich source of antioxidants. The plum is also the second most cultivated fruit in the world.

E. GREY GOOSE L'ORANGE VODKA...Unlike vodkas with a long history, Grey Goose was tailored for the U.S. market in 1997, by the brainchild Sidney Frank a self made billionaire. Grey Goose came to him at 5:20 am on a Sunday Summer morning of 1996, in a fit of inspiration. He had the name, but no distillery, no bottle, and no vodka!

F. KETEL ONE CITROEN...The Nolet Family has been distilling superior spirits since 1691. Ketel One gets its name from Distilleerketel #1, which uses the Alembic Copper Pot still method that Joannes Nolet adopted over 300 years ago. And without giving the game away, its one of the key parts for making parts for making Ketel One so smooth.
